Who was Gautam Buddha?

Gautam Buddha was a philosopher, mendicant, meditator, spiritual and religious leader who lived in ancient India. He is the founder of the religion of Buddhism.

Early Age

Gautam Buddha is the founder of the religion of Buddism. He was born on 563 BC in Lumbani, Kapilvastu, Nepal. He is known as the Light of Asia. His childhood name was Sidhart. His father's name was Suddhodhan who was the leader of Shakyagan in Kapilvastu's. His mother's name was Mahamaya who died on the 7th day of his birth. After the death of Gautam Buddha's mother, he was brought up by his stepmother Prajapati Gautami.

                                                                     When Sidhart (Gautam Buddha) turned 16, his father searched a women for him to marry. He married a women whose name was Yashodhara. After sometimes, a son was born from them whose name was Rahul. But Sidhart was not happy with his life. He wanted to know about life outside of his palace.

Journey of Gautam Buddha's life

One day Sidhart went outside with his charioteer named Channa, he saw ''four sights'' an old man, a sick man, a dead man, and a holy man with no home. After seeing this movement, he left his home to seek answers of difficulties at the age of 29.The incident of  leaving the house by Sidhart is called Mahabhiskraman in Buddhism. Sidhart (Buddha) got "SANKYA DARSHAN" from Alarkalam in Vaishali. Alarkalam became the first teacher of Sidhart.
After 6 years of hard penance, at the age of 35 years, on the full moon night of Vaishakh and the banks of the Niranjan (Falgu) River, Siddhartha under the Peepal tree attained enlightenment. After attaining the enlightenment, Sidhart got the name Buddha. He gave his first sermon in Sarnath (Rishipatnam). His sermon is called Dharmchakrapravartan in the holy book of Buddhism. Buddha gave his sermon in local language, Pali. He gave the most sermons in Shravasti (Kaushal). His fammous followrs were- Bimbisar, Prasenjeet and Udayin.

Death of Gautam Buddha

Gautam Buddha died at the age of 80 years in 483 BC at Kushinagar, Devariya, Utar Pradesh. He died after takin food food, give by "Chund". "Mallo'' cremated Gautam Buddha respectfully. Eight Stupa are made on the Residues of Gautam Buddha's body.  Date of birth and date of death of Buddh are defined on the basis of the Chini epigraphy, Canton. We read about Buddhism in Vinaypitak, Sutrapitak and Abhidhambhpitak. 

Important facts about Buddhism

  1. The minimum age to join Buddh Sangh was 15 years.
  2. There was a belief of rebirth in Buddhism.
  3. There was also belief in Anishwarvad.
  4. Three Jewels of Buddhism are- Buddh, Dhamm and Sangh.
  5. After the death of Buddha, Buddhism was spilt into two- Hinyan and Mahayan.
  6. Four noble truth given by Buddha- Dukkh Suffering, Samudaya cause of Suffering, Nirodh Cessation of Suffering, Nirodhgamini pratipada.
  7. The first statue worshiped in India was Buddha.

At the End

The teachings of the Buddha are known as Buddhism. Buddhism is mostly about ending the feeling of pain that all people feel inside. Gautama Buddha taught that old age, sickness, death and suffering is a part of everyone's life. so do own work and don't think more for the future.
