JAINISM: The founder of Jain Dharm and the first Tirthankara was Rishavdev and 23rd tirthankar was Parshvanath who was the son of Ashwasen. Ashwasen was the king of the Ekshvaku dynasty. Parshvanath accepted simple and ascetic life at the age of 30. The knowledge given by Mahavira Swami are-
  1. No violence
  2. Always speak the truth
  3. Don't steal
  4. Not retain property

Who was Mahavira Swami?

Mahavira was the mendicant, spiritual, and religious leader who was lived in ancient India. He was the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism. Mahavira was born on 540 BC in Kundagram(Vaishali). His childhood name was Vardhaman. His father, Sidharth was the leader of the Gyatrik family. His mother's name was Trishala who was the sister of king Chetak. His wife's name was Yashoda and his daughter's name was Anoja Priyadarshani. Vardhaman left his house at the age of 30 after the death of his parents. His elder brother's name was Nandhivardhan.

The journey of Mahavira Swami

After 12 years of hard penance, at the age of 42 years near Jrimbhik at the bank of the Rijupalika river under the Sal tree, he attained enlightenment. From this time, Mahavira was called Jin(vijeta), Arhat(pujya), Nirgranth(bandhanhin). Mahavira gave his sermon in Prakrit language(Ardhmagdhi). The followers of Mahavira were called Nirgranth. Mahavira divided his disciples into 11 Gandhara. Only Arya sudharma left in all Gandhara who was alive after the death of Mahavira Swami. The leader of the beggars union of Mahavira Swami was Chandana. The rulers who followed Jainism are- Udayin, Vandraja, Chandragupt Maurya, Kharvel, Amoghvarsh, Chandel Shasak. Mahavira believed in rebirth and work.

Death of Mahavira 

At the age of 72 years on 468 BC, Swami Mahavira died(Nirvana) at Pawapuri in Rajgir, Bihar. After the death of Swami Mahavira, Jain Dharm divided. Almost 300 BC, there was a famine of 12 years in Magadh. So some people had stayed with Sthulbhadra in Magadh but some followers have gone Karnatak with Bhadrabahu. After famine Bhadrabhau come back in Magadh with their followers but their thoughts were changed. So the followers of Sthulbhadra are called Swetambar (who wear white clothes) and the followers of Bhadrabahu are called Digambar ( who lived without clothes).
